I'm a developer and I spend a lot of time writing and reading english resources so it made me a little better at it, also I have an interview for a full remote position in NY this friday but I have a french accent so they aren't gonna understand anything :rire:

In my life I did : Turkish->French->German (never understood anything)->English
would love to speak more like a native, was thinking of speaking to random ppl on vrchat but too shy

Imo, improving your accent is mostly a matter of getting exposed to spoken English and internalizing the way native speakers speak.

As for your interview, just make sure to speak clearly and you'll do fine. It's better to speak in a stereotypical French accent and get your point across than to try to feign an American accent and confuse your audience. Americans aren't as judgemental as we are, they're already used to foreigners speaking their language.

Yeah you're right, in my head when I pronounce those words it's like with a fluent english accent, but when I open my mouth :rire:

If you can afford it, get yourself a good tutor to help you hone your speaking skills :oui:

yep but too shy.. also I found it funny how ppl in this topic try to use complicated words to sound more articulate while most english speakers don't even care :(

man if only I had a better english accent, would open so many opportunities, I have been contacted a few times for freelance jobs that are english only and they pay way more than my wagecuck job right now

maybe this sound stupid but I was also thinking of using that latest chatgpt ai that speak to you in realtime :rire:
