Dans l'Oregon, dans les années 1850, les frères Eli et Charlie Sisters, deux chasseurs de primes, traquent un chercheur d'or ayant volé leur patron, le Commodore. Charlie accepte son destin meurtrier tandis qu'Eli commence à montrer des signes de fatigue face à cette violence. Ils sont accompagnés par le détective Morris et Hermann Kermit Warm, un chimiste qui, en pleine ruée vers l’or, a développé une formule permettant de localiser le précieux métal. Entre deux cavalcades et actions sanglantes, les deux frères font l'expérience d'un parcours initiatique qui va mettre à l'épreuve le lien les unissant...
